Lanigan Family Update

March 2026

Hello Lanigan Families!

As we march into a new month, there is so much to celebrate at school!

Read Across America Week will take place March 2–6. We are excited to celebrate the joy of reading with special activities and opportunities for students to build their love of books.

March is also Music in Our Schools Month, a time to recognize the important role music plays in our students’ education and to celebrate the talents of our young musicians.

Student-Led Conferences will be held at the end of the month. We look forward to welcoming families into our building as students take the lead in sharing their growth, goals, and accomplishments.

Our Character Trait of the Month is Perseverance. Role model students show perseverance by continuing to try, even when something feels challenging or doesn’t work the first time. They stay positive, learn from mistakes, and keep working until they reach their goal. We will be reinforcing this important trait throughout the month in classrooms and during announcements.

It’s shaping up to be a wonderful March filled with learning, growth, and celebration!

Sincerely,
Tracy

Read Across America Spirit Week

“Read, White & Blue” is coming to life across our elementary schools as we celebrate Read Across America Week 2026! From March 2–6, students and staff will enjoy daily themed spirit days inspired by different eras of American history while building excitement for reading. The Water Safari Reading Challenge also begins this week, encouraging strong daily reading habits at home and at school. See the flyer for full details — and don’t forget: students who complete the challenge will earn a FREE admission ticket to Enchanted Forest for the 2026 season!

Character Trait of the Month: Perserverence

We will help our dragons to SOAR with a focus on Perseverance! Role model students show perseverance by continuing to try, even when something feels challenging or doesn’t work the first time. They stay positive, learn from mistakes, and keep working until they reach their goal.

Maker Madness at SUNY Oswego

Families are invited to attend Maker Madness, a free, hands-on STEAM event on Sunday, March 8, from 1–4 PM at Penfield Library (SUNY Oswego). The event features community makers sharing interactive activities and demonstrations in science, technology, engineering, arts, and math—designed to inspire students to explore future careers. Students can also enter to win a free Chromebook, and children under 17 must attend with a parent or guardian.

UPK and Kindergarten Registration

UPK Registration for the 2026-27: We invite any child who will turn four years old on or before December 1, 2026 to register for UPK. The Fulton City School District will offer full day classrooms in our elementary buildings and the half day (AM) option may be offered off site or in an elementary building for the 2026-27 school year.

**The number of available seats for the full day classrooms are dependent on the allocation the District receives from NYS. In the event that more registrations are received than can be accommodated, the district will conduct an initial selection process via an open lottery in which children will be selected at random. Those children whose families have completed the registration process by March 6, 2026 will be part of the initial selection process.
  • A completed registration includes birth certificate and proof of residency with registration information.
  • Families who were part of the initial selection process will be called in order of selection and informed by March 20, 2026:
  • Whether their child has been accepted into a full day classroom, and
  • Which building is available for their child:
                  OR
  • Where their child is on the waiting list for a full day seat, and
  • Which location or building and time(s) is available for a half day seat

2026-27 Kindergarten Registration: We invite any child who will turn five years old on or before December 1, 2026 to register for Kindergarten.
  • A completed registration includes birth certificate and proof of residency with registration information.
  • Current UPK students will fill out a contact form in order to register for Kindergarten. UPK classroom teachers will collect the form.

🍎 Attendance Spotlight

We continue to focus on improving attendance this year, as being present each day is essential to student growth and success.

At the same time, we understand that illnesses happen, especially during this time of year. If your child is sick, please keep them home so they can rest and recover. Our quarterly attendance letters are automatically generated and intended to keep families informed, but they do not replace the importance of using your judgment when your child is not feeling well. We truly appreciate your partnership in balancing your child’s health with consistent attendance.

For February our schoolwide attendance was 93%. Our goal is 90% or better. Well done Dragons!
  • UPK: 94%
  • Kindergarten: 95%
  • 1st Grade: 93%
  • 2nd Grade: 95%
  • 3rd Grade: 91%
  • 4th Grade: 93%
  • 5th Grade: 93%
  • 6th Grade: 89%
